Brilon market square
Brilon market square
We start in the middle of Brilon's market square in front of the town hall and walk past it on the left into Derkere Straße, where we turn left into Niedere Straße after approx. 200 m at Galerie Heuser. After crossing Gartenstraße at the pedestrian lights, we turn into the Kreishauspark (Heinrich-Jansen-Weg).Then we keep right at the Kreishaus - into the Drübel nature reserve. Once we have passed this area, the circular tour of the Brilon Kammweg begins and we keep left towards the farm store. We then walk past the youth hostel and the golf course to the Landgasthof Gruss, where we head towards the Waldfeenpfad. Passing the Jick Jack Mühle hiking parking lot, the trail leads towards Bremecketal, on to Teufelsgrund and up to Huckeshohl above the village of Bontkirchen. We then cross the NRW/Hessen state border to Hoher Eimberg (at 805.5 m, the highest elevation in Brilon). Once there, the route heads back down to Willingen and once through the village past the Ritzhagen ski lift, up to Richtplatz. From there, the trail runs parallel to the Rothaarsteig in the direction of Bruchhausen, past the Bruchhauser Steine to the Feuereiche, after crossing the L743 just before it,and then up to spectacular views of the Ginsterkopf and Habberg. If this is too steep for you, you can take the gentler X2 hiking trail on the left from Feuereiche. This rejoins the Brilon Kammweg after approx. 3 km. We then pass the wayside shrine of St. Anthony and reach the Borberg, which is steeped in history. After walking past the chapel and the excavations, we head downhill towards Hiebammen Hütte. There the trail continues to Petersborn and to Brilon Bürgerwald through the Kyrill-Tor. Continue towards Brilon, past the Möhnequelle and the hospital, via Hoppecker Straße, where the circular tour comes to an end. From there, the route follows the familiar route back to the starting point on Brilon's market square.
Along the way, you will find various rescue points on the signposts, which are registered with the rescue control center. The passage over the Ginsterkopfs is only suitable for experienced hikers - alternatively, you can stay on the X-path below.
