Every village has fascinating stories, legends, myths, and anecdotes from the past. To ensure these aren’t lost, there are 20 listening stations throughout the countryside that bring these stories to life. If you want to listen to the history of the village, a little “hands-on” effort is required.
Here’s how it works:
Turn the crank on the side of the audio station until the green LED on the front stays lit. Press the “Start” button for the story. When the LED starts flashing orange, please keep turning the crank. Listen and enjoy, let your gaze wander, and bring the past to life.
The hike begins at St. Cyriakus Parish Church in Berghausen. At the large signpost, we cross the street and follow the road toward Schmallenberg. Once at the top, behind the farm at number 22, we turn right and walk down into the valley. After passing Meilerplatz, we Wenden left and cross the Wenne River. Now, following trail marker B1, we turn left twice. Once we reach the K 25, we walk about 50 meters to the left, carefully cross the street, and reach Lauschpohl No. 18, “Papen Brügge – The Priest and the Devil,” at the bridge.Following the trail, we walk slightly uphill toward Ebbeloh, continue straight through the intersection, and keep climbing. At the top, we turn left. After a few meters, we have a view of the Kreuzkapelle and the St. Peter and Paul Parish Church in Wormbach. At the shelter, we find the Lauschpohl marked No. 19.We head back to the small wood and turn left there toward Ebbeloh. At the next path, we turn left again and walk past a small cottage. On Ebbeloh, we turn left at the end of the path and right at the elevated water tank toward Heiminghausen. At the end of the “Feldflur” trail, we turn left, carefully cross the street, and follow the bike path to the left, past a cross and uphill. At the second fork, we turn right and head toward a house. At the intersection, we turn right and then left behind the Christmas trees. The trail leads us to the Kohlhagen Chapel, where we find the “Lauschpohl” sign No. 2, which tells the story of the reforestation around Berghausen. At the Kohlhagen Chapel, we take a sharp left along the path marked with the B2 hiking sign. This path is also the Berghausen Way of the Cross to Kohlhagen. At the paved path, we turn left and walk toward Berghausen until we reach the road. There, we Wenden left, and the path leads us back to our starting point.
