Brilon Market Square
Brilon Market Square
We start in the middle of Brilon’s market square in front of City Hall and walk past it on the left into Derkere Straße, where, after about 200 meters, we turn left at Galerie Heuser onto Niedere Straße. After crossing Gartenstraße at the pedestrian traffic light, we turn into Kreishauspark (Heinrich-Jansen-Weg).Then, at the county administration building, we keep to the right—into the Drübel Nature Reserve. Once we’ve passed through this area, the Brilon Kammweg loop trail begins, and we keep to the left toward the farm store. We then pass the youth hostel and the golf course on our way to the Landgasthof Gruss, where we head toward the Waldfeenpfad. Passing the Jick Jack Mühle hiking parking lot, the trail leads toward the Bremecketal valley, continuing on to the Teufelsgrund and up to Huckeshohl above the village of Bontkirchen. From there, the trail crosses the North Rhine-Westphalia/Hessen state border to the Hoher Eimberg (at 805.5 m, the highest point in the Brilon municipal area). Once there, the trail descends back to Willingen, passes through the village and by the Ritzhagen ski lift, and climbs up to the Richtplatz. From there, the trail runs parallel to the Rothaarsteig toward Bruchhausen, past the Bruchhauser Steine to the Feuereiche, after we’ve crossed the L743 just before it.Then the trail climbs up to the Ginsterkopf and the Habberg, offering spectacular views. If this is too steep for you, you can turn left at the “Feuereiche” onto the gentler X2 hiking trail. This trail rejoins the Brilon Kammweg after about 3 km. We then pass the wayside shrine of St. Anthony and reach the historic Borberg. After walking past the chapel and the archaeological excavations, the trail descends toward the Hiebammen Hütte. From there, the trail continues to Petersborn and the Bürgerwald through the Kyrill-Tor. We continue toward Brilon, past the Möhnequelle and the hospital, across Hoppecke Street, where the loop trail comes full circle. From there, we take the familiar path back to the starting point at Brilon’s market square.
Along the way, you’ll find various emergency points marked on the trail signs, which are registered with the emergency dispatch center. The section across the Ginsterköpfe is suitable only for experienced hikers—alternatively, you can stay on the X Trail below.
